I qualified as a Clinical, Counselling and Forensic Psychologist in 1999 and I am registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC). Since my graduation I have worked in a variety of settings as well as in a private practice. I am experienced in working with children, adolescents and adults as well as couples and families. My experience also extends to working with refugees and inmates in the UK and abroad.
I have a post-graduation qualification in Forensic, Intercultural and Neuropsychological Assessment and have studied Psychoanalysis since 1994 in Brazil, Belgium and the UK.
In private practice, I work with a range of presenting issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, separation, divorce, bereavement, eating disorders and other issues.
The psychodynamic approach is a therapeutic process which aims at helping patients to make sense of their problems by increasing awareness of their inner world and its influence over relationships both past and present.
I work in English and Portuguese languages.

Hello, and a warm welcome to my profile. First, let me introduce myself, I’m Helen and a fully qualified integrative Counsellor and I’m approaching qualification and registration as a Counselling Psychologist. I’m also a qualified Supervisor for students and colleagues.
I have many years’ experience offering therapeutic interventions and believe in working alongside clients to understand their issues in a friendly and non-judgemental manner. My experience has developed through working in the NHS and in private practice. I have had the opportunity to work with adults and young people with such issues as adult mental health, gender identity, anxiety, stress and women’s mental well-being.
I offer a humanistic and integrative approach to therapy, working face to face, firmly starting with the working relationship in a person-centred approach. This allows us to establish a safe and collaborative way of working together, with the aim of identifying the issues and areas of concern which can then be processed through therapy. I am able to draw upon a number of therapeutic models; Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) alongside Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis (TA) during the therapeutic process. I am registered with the professional bodies, British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and British Psychological Society (BPS) and undertake regular professional supervision. I am qualified to offer online therapy.
My personal journey has allowed knowledge, wisdom, kindness and a sense of humour to develop over time. I strive to balance family and home life to gain a good work-life balance.

As a fully qualified Integrative Psychotherapist, my first and most important concern is to see the world through your eyes, and to build with you a trusting therapeutic relationship so that our journey together will be a fruitful one. In a safe and confidential space, you can begin to learn new ways of dealing with losses in your life, view the world in a more expansive and positive way, begin to regard yourself with higher esteem and give yourself the freedom to become fully who you are.
I integrate a number of psychotherapeutic methods and am particularly guided by Logotherapy, which is based on the philosophy of Victor Frankl. Questions of life, death, relationships, work and study can be addressed, so you can achieve a new level of fulfilment and flourish where you may have felt lost. I offer clients professional assistance with anxiety, depression, grief and bereavement, low self esteem and a cancer diagnosis. For many years I worked as a psychotherapist in the NHS with women wit breast cancer. Currently I am in private practice at Elan.
I am passionate about my work, and have a special interest in integrating the psychological and the spiritual. Spirituality for me is a personal quest for meaning or purpose in life and our relationship to something greater than ourselves.
